The raised fist, or the clenched fist, is a symbol of solidarity and support. It is also used as a salute to express unity, strength, defiance, or resistance.
This painting comes from my Detrition series, and was painted during the social unrest following the death of George Floyd.
Detrition is the wearing down of a surface by friction, attrition, grinding, or abrasion. The series is a celebration of the beauty of decay and the harmony that always emerges over time from moments of intense friction.
